Former U.S. Ambassador and Career Diplomat Brings three decades of experience across the Indo-Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East to Advise on the Global Trusted Tech Network.
WASHINGTON, DC — The Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue has named Ambassador (Ret.) Julie Chung as Senior Advisor to the Institute. In this role, Ambassador Chung will advise the Institute on trusted technology initiatives and help expand cooperation among democratic allies, drawing on a career built across some of the world's most contested strategic regions.
Ambassador Chung brings nearly three decades of diplomatic experience across the Indo-Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East. Prior to joining the Krach Institute, she served as U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Acting Assistant Secretary in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. She also held senior roles in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, including Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Japan, Deputy Chief of Mission in Cambodia, and Economic Counselor in Thailand. Her diplomatic service includes assignments at U.S. embassies in Iraq, Colombia, Vietnam, and Japan, as well as the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou, China. She also served in Washington as an advisor on nonproliferation discussions related to the Agreed Framework with North Korea while working in the Office of Korean Affairs.
