Paul Stahle

Paul Stahle is the Korea Trusted Tech & Trade Fellow at the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue, where he focuses on U.S.-Korea trade, competition, and emerging-technology policy — and how trusted-technology principles can strengthen the alliance.

A 19-year veteran of the U.S. Foreign Service, Paul advanced U.S. economic, energy, and technology interests across Washington, China, Europe, and the Indo-Pacific. At the U.S. Department of State, his work spanned U.S.-Korea relations and North Korea policy in the Office of Korean Affairs; critical and emerging technology (CET) cooperation with India; work with Sweden to rethink its 5G regulations and investment-screening rules protecting trusted vendors; and five years work in China analyzing industrial technology policy. As Chief of Staff of the Bureau of Energy Resources, he helped lead U.S. energy security and critical minerals strategy. He is also the founder of Current Policy LLC, where he advises on energy, technology, and geopolitics.

He holds a Master of Public Policy from Duke University and speaks Chinese, Italian, and Swedish. Outside of work, Paul and his wife enjoy supporting their four children and finding their next adventure.
